Mexico City is one of the largest cities of the world and undoubtedly one of the most vibrant cultural centers of the Americas. It has a diverse and rich history of cultural dialogue, with numerous historical sites that may be of interest to the conference participants (from pre-Hispanic pyramids to cutting edge contemporary art museums). Despite international news about violence in the country, the capital city remains safe and conference delegates should not have security problems.

The historical center youth hostels, Mundo Joven Hostels, is very good and offers accommodation starting at 11US$. There are many other hotels, some more expensive and luxurious in the historical center. If you choose to reserve accommodation in the historical center, you should expect to take between 1h and 1h30 in public transportation to reach the conference venue. We recommend heading to metro Copilco station or the Bombilla metrobus (BRT) station and take the conference shuttle from there.

** These are other possibilities for which we have not negotiated special rates. Delegates should contact them directly.

  • Arriving at the Benito Juarez International Airport

When filling out the migration form to enter Mexico, do not forget to fill out the bottom part as well. Keep this bottom part in your passport, because you will need it to leave the country.

Keep your luggage tags close when you pick up your suitcase, as they often ask them to prove this is your suitcase.

To leave the airport, we recommend you take a taxi autorizado. When you get out of the baggage claim area, the kiosks will be either in front of you or at your right (depending on the terminal). You can choose any company. The price is pre-set, based on a zone system and depending on the number of passengers (it should cost approximately 350 pesos or 25 US$). After purchasing your ticket, go outside to the line of taxis where an official taxi "chief" will direct you to the right taxi in line. Present your ticket to the driver. You can tip the driver when you arrive if you have coins (10 pesos or 20 at most), but it is not necessary.

There is also public transportation from the airport, depending on which hotel you choose, this maybe an option if you are traveling light. See more information here.

Public transportation in Mexico City is cheap and efficient, but expect to ride in crowded trains and buses. You can find information on the subway system here. And on the metrobus (BRT) system here.

The easiest way to travel is to buy a magnetic card in the self-service machines and charge it with money. You can share the card with others. One passage is 7 pesos and you need to pay twice if you change from the metro system to the metrobus system.

If you use public buses (marked in red on the map), you need to pay 5 pesos (cash only). Bus routes are indicated with a placard on the front window, but it is better if you ask the bus driver directly to drop you at the Colegio de Mexico.

Taxis: Hotels often have their own service, which is more expensive. There are also taxi sitios, which charge more than a taxi you would call directly on the street. Finally, taxis you call on the street function by taxi meter. During daytime, it should start at a little more than 9 pesos. Please make sure the taxi licence with photo of the driver and finger prints is visible in the taxi window.

Mexico also has a number of online taxi services such as Easy taxi or Uber.

The address of El Colegio de México is:
    Camino al Ajusco No. 20
    Col. Pedregal de Sta. Teresa
    C.P. 10740
    México, D.F.

  • There is a wide choice of restaurants, bars, and street food that suit all budgets near the hotels. Mexican cuisine is of course more common in these venues, but there are also a wide variety of restaurants from all over the world.

During the conference, breakfast and lunch will be served in the Colmex cafeteria* for under 4 US$ (open from 8 am to 4 pm).

    * Cash only

    • 50% Off at Fondo de Cultura Library presenting the event ID.
    • On Saturday there will be a stand with CEDUA and CES magazines for sale, at discount prices and some for free.
